A Legacy of Opulence & Philanthropy
Villa De Zoysa was constructed by the family patriarch, a philanthropist who made his fortune in the graphite industry during the late 19th century. Nestled amidst acres of sprawling coconut groves, this architectural gem showcases classic British colonial design. A fascinating tale surrounds the villa's stunning wooden staircase and floorboards made of Burmese Teak wood, known to be crafted from the salvaged mast of a shipwreck, that landed on the beach in front of the villa. Renowned locally as "The White House," this exceptional property has remained in the De Zoysa family since its inception, carrying with it a rich heritage.
As a well-respected philanthropist of the time, the family patriarch established the local school in 1906, Boossa School currently enrols 150 students of mixed gender, from ages 6 to 17 and is consistently supported by the family and guests of Villa De Zoysa
Neo-classical Gem of Timeless Character
As you turn off the coastal road and wind up the private driveway, a sense of quiet exclusivity settles in. Villa de Zoysa is a rare find in Southern Sri Lanka—a grand colonial estate that feels less like a hotel and more like a cherished family home. The striking façade, with its elegant neo-classical pillars and sweeping balconies, offers a warm, stately welcome. Inside, the villa’s soul reveals itself: a curated collection of original antiques, polished teak beams, and sun-drenched passageways that lead to a tranquil open courtyard. Lovingly maintained and rich with history, it is a sanctuary where heritage meets the healing spirit of yoga.
